Here at Hope House Foundation, we believe in the power of people to change their own lives and change the lives of others. We have seen it many times over the years as our community has rallied together to help vulnerable women and children experiencing situational homelessness in the Huntersville, North Carolina area. Much of what we do here is made possible by generous, charitable donors like you, and we could not be more grateful. In general, we think that donating to charities is a good thing, but where you can, it is even better to donate to a local charity.
Here are a few reasons why:
- You know where your money is going- When it comes to global or large charities, you may not know exactly how your donation is being used. Larger organizations have many more costs than smaller ones, so if you want to have the assurance that your money isn’t being used to pay the salary of a CEO, you can donate to local charity where your money will be put to specific use.
- You can see the direct impact of your help- With a large charity, it is difficult to see if your donation is helping anyone at all, but when you donate to a local charity, you are able to see the positive impact your help is having. Of course, being able to see the results of your efforts likely isn’t the reason you choose to donate in the first place, but it is nice to know that you are truly making a difference.
- You can help people within your community- If everyone decided to help the people around them in their own communities, the world would be a much better place. Changing the world is a grand and noble goal that is best achieved by starting in your community and lifting up the people around you.
